Each of these images began as a set of cherry-wood blocks, one cut for every colour, printed by hand onto damp paper. The marks used throughout this site are the printer's own registration marks, which are what kept those colours in line.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art photographed the impressions in its collection and released them under Open Access. Every plate here links to its record, so you can see the object we printed from before you buy.
